French artist Paul Ranson (1861-1909) founded the “Les Nabis” group of artists who pioneered the abstract art movement in Paris, alongside working with the impressionist artists. He aimed to create revolutionary art for the ever-modernising world in the late 18th century, using bright colours and delicate outlines.
